GTA Online Beginner Money Guide (2026)

By CashGrind Team·Published Mar 27, 2026

Starting GTA Online in 2026 feels brutal. Veterans have everything. You have nothing. But the path from zero to millionaire is faster than you think if you do things in the right order. Complete the First Dose missions. Grab the free treasure hunt cash. Save for the Kosatka. Run Cayo. That's the playbook.

Your First Day (Do This Before Spending Anything)

Log in. Don't touch the clothing store. Don't touch the car dealership. Here's what actually matters in your first few hours:

Complete the tutorial. Don't skip it. It teaches you mechanics you'll need and gives you starter cash.
Do the three treasure hunts. Double-Action Revolver. Navy Revolver. Stone Hatchet. Find each weapon then complete its kill challenge (50 kills or 25 kills depending on the weapon). Each one pays about $275k–$300k total. That's roughly $800k+ just for exploring and shooting some NPCs. YouTube the locations. Don't waste time searching blind.
Drive to Sandy Shores. Meet Dax at the general store. This starts the First Dose mission chain. Complete all six missions. You'll earn about $1M in first-time bonuses along the way. This also unlocks the Acid Lab setup for $750k. The missions basically pay for the Acid Lab themselves. Plus you get the Brickade 6x6 delivery vehicle for free.
Claim free stuff. If you have GTA+ or the Enhanced edition you get free properties and vehicles. Check your phone for available claims.
Don't buy anything that doesn't earn you money. Not yet. No cars. No clothes. No weapons beyond what missions give you. If it doesn't make you money it can wait.

The $0 to $2.2M Path (Your Only Goal Right Now)

Everything you do for the first few hours has one goal: save $2.2M for the Kosatka submarine. Here's the fastest path:

$0 to $750k: Treasure hunts + First Dose missions. The missions alone pay about $1M in first-time bonuses. A few hours of work. You'll have enough for the Acid Lab.

Buy the Acid Lab ($750k setup). The First Dose mission bonuses cover this. It produces stock while you play. Sells for $335k per full batch. One vehicle. Always soloable. Your first real income stream.

$750k to $2.2M: Grind while your Acid Lab produces. What to grind:

- Contact Missions from your phone (Quick Job). Martin and Simeon pay decent early.

- Register as VIP (need $50k in the bank. Open Interaction Menu → SecuroServ → Register as VIP). Unlocks Headhunter and Sightseer. $25k each. 5 minutes per run. Heads up: VIP only lasts 4 real hours then you're locked out for 12. Use the window.

- Sell Acid Lab stock whenever it's full ($335k).

- Whatever 2x/3x money event Rockstar is running that week. Check the loading screen. If something is double money go hard on it.

Buy the Kosatka ($2.2M). Now you can run Cayo. $1.3M–$1.6M per run. Solo. From here on out money is easy.

What Beginners Waste Money On (Don't Be This Player)

We watch new players make these mistakes every single day:

Buying a CEO Office first. This was the move in 2020. Not anymore. Special Cargo and Vehicle Cargo are outdated grinds. The Kosatka is a better first major purchase. Skip the office.
Buying an apartment for heists. The original heists (Fleeca, Prison Break, etc.) need a crew. Finding randoms is painful. The payout is low compared to Cayo. Don't bother until much later.
Spending cash on weapons. Missions give you weapons for free. The treasure hunts give you three solid guns permanently. Don't buy weapons from Ammu-Nation until you're rich.
Buying a Bunker before a Kosatka. The Bunker is a great business. But it only earns $210k per sell. The Kosatka unlocks $1.3M+ per run. Buy the Kosatka first. Bunker second.
Buying anything cosmetic before $5M in the bank. No cars. No clothes. No penthouse. Play with the starter car. Look basic. Stack cash. Flex later.

The players who stack cash fastest are the ones who look broke the longest. If it doesn't earn you money don't buy it. Not yet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should a new GTA Online player do first in 2026?+

Do the three treasure hunts ($800k+ free cash). Complete the First Dose missions (another $1M in bonuses plus unlocks the Acid Lab). Then grind toward the Kosatka submarine ($2.2M). That's the fastest path from zero to serious money.

What should I buy first in GTA Online 2026?+

The Acid Lab ($750k setup after First Dose missions). Then the Kosatka submarine ($2.2M). These two purchases set you up for the rest of the game. Everything else comes after.

How long does it take to make your first million in GTA Online?+

With treasure hunts and the Acid Lab you can hit $1M in your first day of playing. Maybe 4–6 hours if you're focused. Once you have the Kosatka it takes under an hour to make $1M from a single Cayo run.

Is GTA Online worth starting in 2026?+

Yes. The gap between new and veteran players is huge but the path to catch up is faster than ever. Treasure hunts give you free cash. The Acid Lab is cheap to set up. And Cayo Perico is the great equalizer. One submarine purchase and you're earning millions like everyone else.
